Where on earth does all the buzz come from?

We don’t know if it’s something in the water, or the keen Cotswold air. But Chippy folk have always tackled their work with a vigour verging on turbo.

Yes, it’s a phenomenon.  A market town for centuries, thriving on collaboration and shared resources, Chipping Norton has always enjoyed the barter and bustle of street trade.

In the Middle Ages, it was wool which turned Chipping Norton into one of the wealthiest towns in Britain. Visit our historic photo gallery for a taste of the days of yore.

Over the years which followed, Hitchman’s Brewery and the imposing Bliss Mill joined tannery, iron foundry and a range of ingenious crafts, agricultural services and shops in establishing our town as a place of crackingly hard work and industry.
