Wave goodbye to the drudgery of the treadmill. For a new Chippy gym is set to take you on a wild global journey at the touch of a screen.
Stone Barn Fitness is introducing a range of state-of-the-art treadmills, ascent trainers and cycles featuring Virtual Active – a revolutionary workout experience allowing you to hike through a Hawaiian rainforest, bike through Yellowstone National Park or run the streets of San Francisco.
With iPod connectivity and touchscreen technology, owner Mark Odom hopes to appeal to a new generation of residents seeking a more contemporary exercise regime. He also wants his new gym to be totally interactive, through the use of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. He plans to update the online community with regular health and fitness tips, gym activities and special membership offers, all delivered with a touch of humour.
Opening in October, in a character-filled Cotswold stone barn with exposed beams, the gym’s innovative equipment will allow users to immerse themselves in a complete audio-visual experience, making workouts a breeze.
Work Out And Travel the World
Plug in your iPod and select your music onscreen. Chill out with television. Allow Virtual Active to transport you to the world’s most beautiful trails, roads, cities and landscapes. As you travel, you will feel gradual terrain changes under your feet, and hear the ambient sounds of the forest, mountain or street through the headphones.
“I want Stone Barn to be a unique fitness club with great facilities, friendly service and a relaxed environment”, Mark told ECN. “I’ve always been passionate about sport and fitness, having worked up to management level in the industry over the last 15 years. But I was determined to set up my own space, where I can help people reach their personal goals and feel healthier – which makes it all worthwhile.”
The new Churchill gym has two dedicated spaces, one for cardio and fixed resistance machines, and a functional area for free weights, kettleballs and stretching. Initially it will focus on Memberships and a comprehensive Personal Training service, with Mark aiming to introduce a range of small group training sessions and workshops in future.
He hopes women will be encouraged to fit workouts around school times. “I’d like to offer specific exercise, weight loss and nutritional advice for maximum results. The goal is to create a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, with none of the intimidating aspects that can be so off-putting for women.”
Having worked in many venues around Oxfordshire, Mark has finally come back to his roots. “I had been looking for some time for a suitable property. Then I found the perfect one in the village I grew up in, and the village in which my parents still live. What’s more, it is Unit 9 and my birthday is on the 9th – it must be fate!”
“I don’t want to be too corporate or sales-orientated. Above all, fitness can be fun. But it’s a learning experience too. I hope to share my knowledge along with the latest health and fitness news that will help me inspire my clients to reach their goals.”
“The gym will be open to everyone, whatever your fitness level. From first time users to experienced exercisers, you will find that Stone Barn Fitness has plenty to offer.”
Stone Barn Fitness is planning a special Open Weekend in October, with membership offers and free trial use. Check out the gym website and social media platforms for further updates.
