Chippy youngsters are taking great sporting strides, with more football teams than ever before competing on the 2016/17 fixtures.
There’s much excitement at the Chipping Norton Swifts Football Club, as local kids aged from six to 16 learn and develop their skills in a fun and friendly environment.
Swifts membership is growing so rapidly that the club could be offering the footy experience to nearly 100 children next year, according to Swifts Treasurer Martyn Walsh.
Following the club motto #PlayTheRightWay, the competitive spirit is balanced by a supportive club ethic which aims to give every member an enjoyable experience.
All the Chipping Norton Swifts teams are tackling the new season with style, including newest – and cutest- recruits, the Under 7s.
Under 7 fun
Recruited from the successful Soccer School, members of the Under 7 team have tackled their first ever season with great enthusiasm.
The squad get on famously and are looking forward to developing their obvious talents – goal-kicking ability, encouraging defending and great positional play.
The under 7s are looking forward to getting to know each other better during the rest of the season.
Under 8 action
The hardy Under 8s kick-started their season with a very successful tournament in Ducklington, boding well for the rest of their fixtures.
They’re forging ahead with the same attitude and drive they displayed last year, enjoying the game immensely.
With so many players in this age group, a second team has been created – Under 8 Black and Under 8 White. So if your kids love football and want to join in, the Swifts would love some new members.
Under 9 dominance
The Under 9s take no prisoners. Starting the season in dominant fashion, they were unbeaten in their first four outings – scoring an incredible 21 goals while conceding only four.
Playing quality football well beyond their years, these youngsters are a joy to watch. This season’s challenging local derbies will be a great test of their mettle.
Under 10 skill
The Under 10s are forming a brand new squad this season, with new members slowly learning the subtle art of teamwork.
Some great individual skills are on display and the team is performing better with every passing week.
Space is still available in the Under 10 squad, and the Swifts are on the lookout for a full-time coach to lead the team to glory in years to come.
Under 12 brilliance
While the Under 12s crashed out of the KO Cup at the first hurdle, they enjoyed a superb start in their A league campaign.
A brilliant 2-2 draw away at champions Tower Hill was backed up with a highly convincing 10-0 win at Grendon Rangers.
They hope to continue this momentum through their next few games, with tough fixtures against Combe and Bicester Town on the cards.
Under 13 thrills
It’s a new era for the Under 13s with a brand new manager and coach, not to mention a host of new and familiar faces out on the pitch.
Setting their sights on the higher reaches of their C league, they overcame a stuttering start and are now really beginning to gel.
Their last fixture culminated in a thrilling 5-5 draw, leading to a 4-3 penalty shoot-out cup win against Deddington. Subsequent fixtures include Bicester Town, Carterton and Yarnton.
Under 16 persistence
While the Under 16s endured a difficult start to the season, they have impressed with their ability to rise to a challenge.
Slowly but surely they are turning their fortunes around, as a stunning win away at Brackley has proved.
If you’d like to coach or play with the Chippy Swifts, Martyn Walsh would be delighted to hear from you.
