Of all the gin joints in all the world, Osca had to walk into Jim’s.
Osca, ECN’s unofficial mascot, should be down the polling booth casting his vote. But he’s back in the dog house and up to old tricks again.
ECN photographer Sophie Carson sprang him on the razz with shady local publican Jim Hopcraft, who shares his taste for gambling and the demon drink.
Chippy’s shortlisting in the Great British High Street Awards has gone straight to their heads – rather like the top-notch wine Sophie caught Osca and Jim sharing in a back room of Chippy’s infamous Chequers pub. These two are definitely getting ahead of themselves.
The Chequers used to be a respectable establishment. Before Osca, the beer-guzzling dog, teamed up with Big Jim, Chipping Norton’s notorious charlatan and card shark.
Between them, they’ve turned it into a den of sin – their joint penchant for poker, vintage wine and fine cigars leading them both down the slippery slope to ruin.
If the judges know what really goes on in Chippy drinking holes – well, we’re gone for all money.
So come on. Clean up your act lads, and wipe the table; cigars out; wine bottles away; and do your voting duty.
Chippy2Drink? No, Chippy2Win! Vote today and every day until we’re there!
Please note: Jim was in character for this article. Mr Hopcraft is an upstanding and law abiding publican, as well as a terrific sport. He and the Chequers are a much-loved part of Chippy life. And as for Osca? Well, he think’s it’s a dog’s life and is just living up to his reputation as a boozer . . .
