From reclining on cushions of warm water to tackling a Hollywood Wax head on, the award-winning team at Cedar Therapy will help you unlock the mysteries of the beauty salon.
Charlotte Chenery and her staff certainly hold the key. For Chippy’s Cedar Therapy has been judged Guinot Crown Salon 2014 for excellence in the use of this world-leading skincare range – for the second year running.
But let’s get serious. How many of us really know what goes on in the place designed to help us optimise how our body both looks and feels?
What is the difference between a Hollywood and a Brazilian? How can either be close to pain-free? How can a Hydrotherm help your muscles melt? And why does Guinot, the top French beauty treatment, use a ‘prescriptive’ approach to skincare which can only be applied by a highly-trained beautician?
Perhaps we should start with Guinot, as the team are still celebrating this special accolade. They have been placed among the country’s top 10% of Guinot salons, offering flawless surroundings, customer care and expertise, as well as a complete range of facial and manual body treatments.
No small feat considering that Guinot’s exacting scientific standards require their beauticians to be expert in diagnosing their clients’ skin concerns, and offering targeted treatment free of parabens to suit the needs of their individual skin type.
But Guinot is only part of the Cedar Therapy experience. The salon offers a wide variety of beauty and relaxation treatments including facials, gel nails guaranteed to last up to two weeks, manicures and pedicures, Lycon waxing, spray tanning, a choice of massages, and reflexology.
Contemporary waxing methods are a salon speciality, and they’re not just confined to legs.
“The difference between a Hollywood and a Brazilian Wax is that a Hollywood removes all hair (everything between your legs) while a Brazilian does the same except for a small strip left at the front”, Salon Manager Becky Claridge told ECN. “For an almost pain-free wax, we use Lycon which is a strip-less hot wax. We firstly apply a pre-wax oil to the skin which acts as a barrier between the wax and the skin. So the wax can shrink-wrap around the hair and not stick to the skin – less tugging means less pain!”
Magic For Your Muscles
If that sounds hair-raising, you can always de-stress with a Cedar Therapy massage.
Swedish massage, the most common and popular type on offer, combines various hands-on techniques including gliding, kneading and cross-fibre friction to break up those pesky muscle knots.
Or why not try the most appealing – a Hydrotherm massage, performed on heated water cushions so your muscles melt into pillows of warm water. Fully supported, you won’t even have to turn over.
Indian head massage is based on the Ayurvedic healing system practised in India for thousands of years. This aims to release stress which has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, neck and shoulders, so relieving the tension which often leads to stiff necks and headaches. Cedar Therapy adds in a back massage to cover all bases.
From top to toe, the salon ensures that feet don’t miss out on attention. The ancient practice of reflexology is a foot massage using specific thumb, finger and hand techniques. It centres on a system of zones and reflex areas which reflect an image of the body on the feet. Working on a particular part of the foot, then, may affect a physical change to the body. It is also hugely relaxing for aching feet.
Meet the Guinot Girls
Owned by Charlotte Chenery, Cedar Therapy has been managed by Becky – a fully qualified beauty therapist with extensive experience – for the last five years. Her staff include therapist Debi, also fully trained; Sinead who started in July this year and specialises in nails and beauty essentials; and newest recruit Ellie, now awaiting her Guinot training.
Passionate about their trade, the Guinot girls are proud of their attractive and luxurious salon, which offers customers a true escape from the hussle and bustle of everyday life.
The exclusive French skincare method is the Cedar Therapy centrepiece, and all skills are honed to practice its treatments to a very exacting standard.
“For Guinot, it is the beauty therapist, as a professional, who combines his or her expertise with the exclusive beauty-care methods to obtain results that are immediately visible”, Becky says.
“We love what we do, and we want as many people as possible to be a part of it. We use Facebook to keep in touch with the majority of our clients, also using a texting service for appointment reminders and news of special offers. We try our utmost to stay connected with the local community by helping with charity events and school fundraisers wherever possible.”
“We love Christmas too. We aim to have a real presence in the town, being part of festive shopping events and window displays. Don’t miss out on our range of gift vouchers and beauty packages which will make great Christmas presents!”
