Chipping Norton has been fast out of the blocks in the race to be named Britain’s best high street after being shortlisted in the Great British High Street competition.
With the contest hinging on a public vote and a visit to the town by a panel of judges, the team behind the town’s entry has wasted no time hitting the hustings for support.
Scores of residents and shoppers voted at a pop-up polling booth setup with iPads by Experience Chipping Norton (ECN) volunteers outside Delicacy Deli last weekend.
Hundreds more are voting online at Chippy2Win.com, which links directly to the voting page on the Great British High Street website.
Press pack descends on Chippy
Media crews have invaded the town with newspapers, radio and TV all focused on Chipping Norton’s bid to win the market town category in the competition.
We can do it!
Plans are also underway to decorate the town and make social media a secret weapon as Chipping Norton’s strives to stand out among the 21 finalists from across the country.
ECN chair Shaun Fagan wants the whole town to play a part in attempting to win the competition.
“You’d have to be from another planet not to realise Chipping Norton is a finalist,” he said.
“As the whole country now knows, there’s much more to Chipping Norton than some people would have you believe. We’re proud of our sense of community, character and innovation.”
ECN urges people to make Chippy Britain’s favourite high street by voting EVERY DAY with EVERY VALID EMAIL ADDRESS THEY OWN until the polls close on November 13. Simply visit Chippy2win.com to cast your vote.
Keep track of the competition by following the ECN Twitter feed and the hashtag #Chippy2Win. Frequent updates will also be posted on the ECN Facebook page and website.
