I’m not sure about you, but for the last 5 years if I have needed a gift or something to complete an outfit for a special occasion or even just a treat for myself, I have been visiting Wild at Heart on the high street. With the beautiful selection of jewelry and accessories, ranging from contemporary silver jewelry and leather handbags to fashion jewelry, stunning scarves and dazzling jeweled belts. This week, I got to know the brains behind the operation, and how such a lovely idea turned into a very successful local business and you don’t need to look far to find out why.
Adrian Wild and his wife Emily have been running this business since March 2006, when they opened their first shop in Moreton in Marsh. The name comes close to home, taken from their surname ‘Wild’ we have been graced with ‘Wild at Heart’. In their own words ”Our dream was to build a family business that would bring stylish, modern and contemporary jewelry and accessories from around the world to Chipping Norton, as well as from local designers in the very creative Cotswold’s itself – a dream we have made reality.”
As we all well know, nothing is as simple as an idea. Adrian’s vast experience in retail has supported their dreams along the way. Starting in 1976 (that’s 38 years (and counting) in retail!) at WHSmiths as a Christmas temp, Adrian went from strength to strength and finished as a store manager working along the South East. Then, with the bug for retail, Adrian moved to Office World as a store manager, inevitably he became an area manager and stayed with Office World for ten years. This is where he met his lovely wife Emily, she was the Retail Marketing Manager and responsible for the launch of Office World’s latest store in Southampton, of which he was the manager. Emily left Office World in 2002 to use her marketing skills working for Oxfam in their Fundraising department, where she still works now but part time, so that she can support Adrian with the business and look after their two boys. After a short 3 years at Topps Tiles in 2003, he and Emily decided to pursue their dreams.
Having moved to Chipping Norton in 1996, attracted by the great community in the town, the history and character of the place and of course everything you need in the town centre and easy commutes to both of their jobs, they opened the shop in Moreton in 2006, and shortly following this they opened their second successful shop right here in Chipping Norton, aren’t we glad they did?
Currently living just outside of town in Cleveley, with their two sons, Adrian and Emily hope to one day open a 3rd shop, with a dream of potentially more, if the right size and location comes onto the market. Continuing the family business for years to come, so if their sons wish to pursue this career…
