Summer has arrived, along with exciting ECN ventures involving phones, flowers, conservation and tourism. Not to mention film, fast-tweeting #ChippyHour, tasty Rafiki Sandwiches and a brand new range of ECN merchandise.
Walking on Sunshine
And here it is. ECN’s hot new phone app, sponsored by local businesses, will give visitors a free and highly informative walking tour of Chippy’s tourist spots. Traders who sign up to the Handheld Tour venture will get their profile well and truly on this digital map, featuring a range of interesting pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops clearly signed along the way.
Soon to be finalised, the app will show images, video and facts about each featured tourism landmark. For an annual fee, traders can benefit from the great exposure this App will give – even if they are slightly off the guided trail. Larger national attractions such as Blenheim Palace and the Cotswold Wildlife Park will also be included, so increasing the reach of this brand new project.
See the App page on the ECN website for details of how to sign up to this fantastic launch.
Chippy’s Grand Design
Congratulations to Richard Hopkins of Applegarth Nursery for putting up his hand and taking charge of a far-reaching scheme to beautify Chipping Norton and conserve its historic landscape and environment.
He hopes to work in conjunction with existing groups like the Green Gym, which already puts in the hard yards maintaining vital Common land and pastures around the town. Any other green or gardening groups and businesses keen to help are actively encouraged to get involved. Currently drawing up a workable plan for the town and its surrounding villages, Richard hopes to get cracking some time in Autumn. Any local people interested in helping out with this grand design can contact ECN – volunteers always welcome!
#ChippyHour has Landed
Yes, it’s up, running and hot off the tablets every Wednesday between 8pm and 9pm, courtesy of Delicacy Deli owner Jon Squires and Red Lion landlord Stuart Taylor. Just what happens in this action-packed 60 minutes? People can link up around a common, chosen interest for one-hour Twitter chats.
Anyone with the hashtag #ChippyHour will be included in the chat, and able to check out everyone else participating at the same time. So if you want to try your hand at speed networking, tune in at 8pm next Wednesday and see what the buzz is about.
It’s proving hugely popular, and anyone can join in, so if you want to come up with a new theme, check in with Jon and Stuart, either through their businesses or the ECN website.
Let’s Hear it for Chipping Norton TV
Not every town has its very own TV station, does it? Appalled by the spiralling costs which put film out of the reach of small business, Matt and Liam Bellenie have put ‘community’ back into their own version of television at CNTV – a video production team aimed at providing affordable filming for local residents and businesses.
Directly geared to the small budget, Matt and ECN member Liam are keen to offer bang-up-to-date advertising and marketing solutions through clever use of social and visual medias.
They’ve already filmed the #LoveChippy competition promo and carried out live filming for the recent Rumble in the Cotswolds. They’re also keen to take on community projects, personal events and photoshoots. A bi-weekly news show presented by London comedian Sheraz Yousaf is under way, along with a fictional drama series written and created by themselves. Well done lads!
Full Steam Ahead for GB High Street Awards
We’re well and truly stuck in to the ECN submission in the Market Town category of the GB High Street Awards, working towards the mid-July deadline. Thanks to all the local groups, businesses and organisations who have given their time, expertise and valuable contributions. Look out for signs of #GBHighSt around town!
If you haven’t yet heard from us but think your group should have a mention, please feel free to contact us at ECN. The more the merrier!
Rafiki Thabo Foundation on the rise
It’s all good news for the Kingham charity dedicated to providing food and educational opportunities for struggling students in Kenya, Uganda and Lesotho. Rafiki Thabo are now Womersley Food’s official Charity of the Year, and owner Rupert Parsons is raising valuable funds at food fairs and festivals.
Foundation member Janet Hayes addressed ECN’s April public meeting, explaining how the charity works and asking for local business sponsorship of its vital school meals program.
Following this appeal, a website feature and lots of door-knocking by ECN’s Liam Bellenie, Delicacy Deli has signed up to the Rafiki Sandwich project, and is asking for a voluntary donation of 35p on top of standard prices in the store. The Old Mill is kindly making a monthly donation, while Spice of India and the Red Lion are in the pipeline for support.
Any local businesses interested in contributing will be given a very warm welcome!
